How to Organise Helpfiles Empty How to Organise Helpfiles

Post  Kithrater Sun Sep 14, 2008 12:00 pm

Now that the wilderness is almost complete and people can at least have some fun exploring and hunting, I'm working on getting helpfiles in to the game.

However, a problem I'm facing is how to organise them via category?

Can any one think of a good way to organise the various helpfiles needed - helpfiles on skills, on commands, on skill-linked commands, on crafts, on world information, on abstract concepts, on systems, etc., and explain why their system is the best?

This is just a start on my own ideas for Categories and more will most likely come after I look over what we currently have and figure out what may need to be changed, removed, or added.

Lore - History, Stories, and Background Information of the Mud
Communication - Roleplaying, Social Commands(Emotes, Says, Tells, Whispers, Thinks)
Skills - Information on Skills and their Uses, Commands directly related to skills, and crafting related to skills
Combat - Combat Information, Combat Commands, and Roleplaying Requirements
General - Place for everything that doesn't fit into a specific category.
Newbie - Place for all Help Files directly related to new players to help them learn. Place for simplified help files that will point to more advanced help files later on.

How to Organise Helpfiles Empty Re: How to Organise Helpfiles

I've added some of my own notes to this as Falconer did a great job on a good size list. There are a few categories I'd combine and some I'd remove and place under other categories. Big thing with this is to make helpfiles dealing with a ability that uses a skill more in depth with the ability and the skill helpfile more general and mention what someone can do with the skill. Also believe that a General Section should still be created because there is going to come a time where certain Helpfiles may not have a place to go.
